Announcement for Collecting Documents and Materials Related to the Nanjing Massacre
The Nanjing Massacre Documents Research and Communication Center of The Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders is now globally collecting documents and materials related to the Nanjing Massacre. The purpose of this collection is to thoroughly explore, rescue, organize, and preserve historical documents and materials related to the Nanjing Massacre, enrich museum collections, promote historical research, international communication, and peace education, and provide solid documentary support for passing on historical memory, promoting the concept of peace, and facilitating exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.
1. Scope of Collection
The memorial hall is now collecting all kinds of paper and digital materials related to the Nanjing Massacre and the Chinese people's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, including but not limited to archives, books, journals, newspapers, theses, conference papers, paper collections, letters, memoirs, notes, manuscripts, audio-visual materials, and other documents worth preserving.
The following content is being prioritized for collection:
(1) Original archives, documents, and research materials related to the Nanjing Massacre;
(2) Documents and materials related to the comfort women(enforced sex slaves) issue;
(3) Historical materials and research findings related to the Battle of Nanjing and the Fall of Nanjing;
(4) Documents and materials related to the the International Tribunal for the Far East,the Nanjing War Crimes Tribunal, and other trials of Japanese war criminals;
(5) Materials related to the commemoration, education, research, and international dissemination of the Nanjing Massacre;
(6) Documents and materials on the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, especially the history of the resistance in Jiangsu Province and Nanjing.
Priority will be given to unpublished archives, private collections, and overseas-published materials that are original and scarce, as well as documentary resources of significant research and collection value.
2. Ways of Collection
(1) Original donation. Donors can donate the original documents to the memorial hall for voluntary and permanent collection. Donors should ensure that the materials provided come from legal sources and have clear ownership.
(2) Copy collection. For valuable documents whose donors wish to retain the originals, the memorial hall can arrange professional staff to scan or copy them according to the donor's wishes, collecting the electronic version or copies.
(3) Paid collection. Documents with important historical value can be collected for a fee after being evaluated by experts.
The above-mentioned materials can be collected through mailing or on-site handover. The memorial hall will cover related expenses during the collection process, such as mailing, scanning, and copying.

3. Management of Incoming Collections
(1) Documents that are evaluated by the memorial hall to have collection and preservation value will be included in The Nanjing Massacre Documents Research and Communication Center, and will be properly preserved in strict accordance with relevant national standards and collection management regulations.
(2) The documents will primarily be used for public purposes such as academic research, exhibition and dissemination, public education, and the development of digital resources. The memorial hall pledges to use these documents in compliance with relevant national laws and regulations, respecting the donors' intentions and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of the donors.
(3) The memorial hall welcomes donors to participate in related documents research, results dissemination, and educational outreach activities. The memorial hall can provide donors with convenient services such as visits, exchanges, and participation in special events.
The memorial hall primarily recognizes donations through moral incentives and issues a collection certificate to donors who complete document donations. For donors whose donated documents are of high value, large quantity, and are deemed by experts to make a significant contribution to the memorial hall's collection and research, the memorial hall will award a 'Special Contribution Certificate for Nanjing Massacre Document Donation' as a token of gratitude.
